If Li2O is substituted in MgO, an anion vacancy forms, as the following shows.

Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg

O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O

Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg

O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O

Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg

O	Mg	O	Li	O	Mg	O	Mg	O

Mg	O	Mg Li	O	Mg	O	Mg

O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O	Mg	O

If CaCl2 substitutes in CaO, you should be able to show that a cation vacancy will form.
